Master of Education in Higher Education & Student Affairs

The Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs (MED-HESA) at Saint Martin's brings our Benedictine values-based approach to student services/student affairs work on college and university campuses. We aim to challenge and support the next generation of scholar-practitioners in the field of higher education and student affairs.

Why Saint Martin's University?

A rigorous yet practical course of study emphasizing leadership, social justice, and theory-to-practice.

Flexible synchronous online modality designed for working professionals and full time students with courses offered in multiple formats during three terms: fall, spring, and summer.

Core requirements explore and critically examine concepts, values, ethics, competencies, and theories that provide foundational perspectives on higher education and student affairs.

Master of Education in Higher Education & Student Affairs Requirements

MED-HESA degree candidates are required to take 30 credit hours of Core Requirements courses. In addition to the Core Requirements, students must choose an elective and complete a capstone course. Elective courses are selected to complete required credit hours. These courses must be acceptable for graduate credit and typically are taken from courses offered in the College of Education and Counseling, but may draw from other graduate programs at Saint Martin’s University at the approval of the student’s advisor.

The official, most up-to-date class offerings can be found by using Self-Service or the Graduate Academic Catalog. For significant term dates refer to the Academic Calendar.

The core requirements address higher education and student affairs philosophical foundations while assisting students making connections between theory and practice when working with college and university students. The design intentionally invites master’s degree students to explore, begin to understand, and critically examine concepts, values, ethics, competencies, and theories that provide foundational perspectives on higher education and student affairs. Visit the graduate academic catalog for a complete breakdown of CORE (general) requirements.
