Literary Studies provides opportunities to deepen learning in classes with faculty-led trips abroad. Check out past trips below to get an idea of future offerings!

Past trips

Florence, Rome, Ravenna, Pisa, Lucca, Montecatini Terme, Assisi  |  2022. The Summer of Dante and his Comedia. Led by Stephen X. Mead & Julia Chavez

London, Oxford and Edinburgh  |  2018. "History & Mystery" class on British authors, including J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Burns, J.K. Rowling and William Shakespeare. Led by Stephen X. Mead & Julia Chavez.

Vietnam  |  Spring 2017. Two-week trip to Vietnam in conjunction with a literary studies course called "War, Migration and Exile in Contemporary Vietnamese-American Literature." Led by Todd Barosky & Tam Dinh.

France  |  May 2016. Language, Culture, & History. Led by Nathalie Kuroiwa-Lewis & Kathleen McKain.

London, Bath, Dublin  |  May 2015. Shakespeare, Jane Austen, James Joyce. Led by Stephen X. Mead & Julia Chavez.

Spain & Morocco  |  June 2015. Student trip. Food & Culture. Led by Jeff Birkenstein & Irina Gendelman.

Shanghai & Beijing, China  |  2015. Education students taught classes at Bei Cai High School in Shanghai, China. Led by Todd Barosky.

Professors Julia McCord Chavez and Stephen Mead led students on a trip to Italy where they studied Dante and traveled to Florence, Rome, Assisi, Lucca, Montecatini Terme and Pisa.

Trip details

In 2017, Drs. Todd Barosky and Tam Dinh took Saint Martin's students to Vietnam. The study abroad trip was associated with Dr. Barosky's course, "War, Migration and Exile in Contemporary Vietnamese-American Literature." They travelled to Hanoi, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Trip details

In 2015 Dr. Todd Barosky took Saint Martin's education students to teach classes at Bei Cai High School in Shanghai, China. Dr. Barosky also gave lectures at Shanghai Maritime University. The study abroad trip included a week-long site-seeing visit to Beijing.
