“To excel in the business world, I must broaden my perspective and experience as the business world is getting even more globalized.”

Master of Accountancy

Master of Accountancy student Aman Lidder recounts his experience during two MBA study abroad programs in Denmark and Japan.

Early in my undergraduate career, I knew that in order to excel in the business world I must broaden my perspective and experience, as the business world is getting even more globalized. During my Master of Accountancy program at Saint Martin’s University, I’ve been able to participate in two MBA Study Abroad Programs in Denmark and Japan led by both Dr. Chung S. Lee and Dr. Gina Armer. By going on these trips, I’ve been able to enhance my business strategies for the multiple businesses that I operate, including restaurants and real estate developments.

In May of 2023, I traveled to Denmark. On this trip, I didn’t just travel to only one country, but I was also able to travel to the Netherlands and Sweden.  I learned about the marketing strategies that have been implemented by international companies, architecture designs that incorporate both environmentally friendly material and the use of gender-neutral designs. I saw the future of Drone Technology, experienced an on-site field trip to the Royal Dutch Shell subsidiary Nature Energy, a biogas facility, and learned about the taxation system that is utilized in Denmark and the European Union.

This last May, I traveled to Japan for the first time, a country that I have always deeply admired. Going in, I expected that English would be widely understood due to our U.S. presence. Boy was I wrong. I also expected forks and spoons to be widely available due to high tourism; an expectation that was broken on my first day. While Japan wasn't what I personally expected, I experienced many memories and life skills that I will forever cherish. Due to the language barrier, I accidentally ended up dining at a 5-star restaurant while wearing a polo shirt with golf shorts. I experienced Japanese cuisine and used chopsticks for the very first time. I learned about Japanese culture and the management strategies used in business. I also experienced the use of new technology that isn't readily available in the U.S. markets.
