Saint Martin’s University introduces a 4-Year Graduation Guarantee for high-demand majors

Eligible students graduate on time or receive no-cost support to complete their degree.

Enrolling in college is a big step. But studies show only 40% of students graduate within the traditional four-year schedule, often increasing debt and postponing employment. To address this national challenge and support timely degree completion, Saint Martin’s University now offers a four-year graduation guarantee to eligible engineering, nursing, education and business administration students.

The new program, which launched in the Fall 2025 semester, offers a personalized academic plan, consistent advising and clear expectations so students graduate in eight semesters, confident and fully equipped to enter the workforce.

Participating majors include engineering, nursing, education and business administration. First-year, first-time students can enroll in the fall semester and work with advisors towards a streamlined graduation.

A graduation guarantee that streamlines degree completion and saves money

Saint Martin’s Four-Year Graduation Guarantee program works with students through careful planning, advising and assistance to ensure that students stay on track. If a required course is unavailable during their eight semesters, for example, Saint Martin’s will provide an approved substitute, waive the requirement, or cover the cost for the student to complete the course in a future term.

Program enrollees must be first-year, first-time business, education, engineering or nursing students starting in the fall semester. They complete a signed agreement, maintain a consistent courseload, achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and follow guidelines based on their major’s requirements.

Patty Lemon, the University’s dean of admissions and enrollment, believes this guarantee exemplifies Saint Martin’s University’s commitment to their students. “Families are looking for both quality and value in higher education,” she says. “Our four-year graduation guarantee demonstrates that Saint Martin’s stands firmly behind its promise to deliver both. We’re committed to providing the guidance, resources and academic support students need to finish their degree on time and begin their professional journeys with confidence.”

On-time college graduation brings students financial, academic and career advantages

Alexis Nelson, executive director of Saint Martin’s Center for Student Success and program director of the Center of Excellence for Veteran Success, says that this program also offers students peace of mind about the financial commitments of higher education.

“Students may plan for all costs at the start of their programs and have confidence that additional courses or semesters will not be required,” says Nelson. “Saint Martin’s Four-Year Graduation Guarantee also streamlines students’ steps – such as courses and internships – into navigable pathways. This is particularly helpful for first-generation students who may be unfamiliar with university requirements.”

By completing their degree within four years, students reduce the risk of accumulating extra tuition costs and avoid extended housing or living expenses. As a result of the Four-Year Graduation Guarantee, says Nelson, Saint Martin’s University anticipates that more students will graduate with a bachelor’s degree within four years, carry less educational debt and transition more quickly into high-wage roles following graduation.

Personalized planning makes for a smoother university experience

“What makes Saint Martin’s University’s approach distinctive is the deeply personalized and holistic nature of the support we provide,” says Chung Lee, dean of the College of Business, Engineering and Technology. “Many universities offer advising and tutoring, but at Saint Martin’s, these services are woven into the fabric of the student experience and grounded in our Catholic, Benedictine values.”

At Saint Martin’s, students are not just numbers, says Lee. They are known personally by faculty, staff and advisors who walk alongside them throughout their academic journey. This combination of individualized guidance, academic resources and advanced degree pathways ensures students are supported at every step and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

Lee believes that the graduation guarantee relies on a partnership between students, faculty and staff. “The comprehensive support system at Saint Martin’s is expected to have a significant and lasting impact on students’ academic, professional and personal development,” Lee explains.

Such emphasis on individualized attention fosters improved retention and student success because students feel supported, valued and connected to the university community. “This approach not only helps them excel in coursework but also strengthens their problem-solving, communication and leadership skills,” says Lee.

As research consistently shows, individuals with a college degree earn significantly more over a lifetime than peers without one, and 70% of adults with college-educated parents go on to college themselves. With its new Four-Year Graduation Guarantee program, Saint Martin’s University is helping to build stronger futures for generations to come.
