SOPREMA, Inc., a leading roofing, waterproofing, wall protection and civil engineering solutions manufacturer, has awarded Saint Martin's University student, Franny Anunobi, a scholarship as part of the company's annual awards program. The company started the SOPREMA Scholarship to assist students pursuing a degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a similar building envelope field at accredited four-year colleges or universities. Franny will receive $5,000 to use toward her studies this school year.

“I was thrilled to learn that I had been awarded the SOPREMA Scholarship. Over the course of the application process, it has been exciting to learn more about SOPREMA and its far-reaching impact across engineering industries,” said Franny. “The SOPREMA Scholarship Program offers scholarships to four students each year, and it was an absolute honor to be considered and selected for a scholarship.”

This summer, Franny worked with the U.S. Department of Energy as a summer intern in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (Water Power Technologies Office). She shared, “I feel truly privileged to have been offered an internship position to support emerging marine renewable energy research. I had an amazing experience working with my hosting office, and my involvement in the ongoing research within the EERE has only affirmed my desire to continue my work in this field. I learned so much from the engineers, scientists, and researchers I worked alongside this summer, and they have each set an incredibly high bar and shining example for me as I move forward in my career. I am so grateful to the faculty here at Saint Martin’s who have prepared me for this career-building opportunity, and I am deeply appreciative of the SOPREMA Scholarship program for their continued support in my academic and professional pursuits.”

Her interest in energy production and management along with her desire to approach problem-solving through engineering design fuels her passion for pursuing a career in engineering. "My primary goal as a future engineer is to create products and processes that are sustainable, innovative, and efficient," said Franny. "I am most fulfilled by work that has direct positive impacts on communities, so I am also hopeful that I will be able to integrate a community-driven perspective into my work."

SOPREMA is dedicated to the success of the building envelope industry by advancing the next generation. That is why SOPREMA has invested $175,000 in scholarships in the building envelope field in just seven years. Applications for the 2023-2024 SOPREMA Scholarship program will be available in the early fall. The SOPREMA Scholarship is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America. Scholarship Management Services is the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.
