Counseling

Saint Martin’s Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) is intended to meet the educational requirements for licensing/certification, as a Mental Health Counselor (MHC) and Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT), in the State of Washington only. Saint Martin’s University has not determined if the MAC curriculum meets the educational requirements for licensing/certification in any other state. The following links provide additional information regarding the State of Washington’s licensing requirements for Mental Health Counselor  and Marriage and Family Therapist.

Education

Saint Martin’s University Educator Preparation and endorsement programs are approved by the Washington State Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB). Candidates completing Teacher Preparation programs (e.g., elementary, secondary, or special education) are eligible for Teacher certification (First Issue Residency Teacher certificate). Administrative candidates are eligible for Administrator certificates (Residency Administrator First Issue) with endorsements in principal or program administrator. All certifications and certificates are reviewed and issued by the state of Washington.

Saint Martin’s University has not determined if the Educator Preparation and endorsement programs meet the educational requirements of certification in any other state.

Nursing

Graduates of Saint Martin's Nursing program (BSN) are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam to obtain licensure through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. As of August 2020, the Saint Martin’s BSN meets the licensing requirements in the following states and territories:

Alabama, Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virgin Islands, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Social work

Graduates of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at Saint Martin’s University are prepared to sit for the bachelor’s level exam through the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). Each state has different professional licensure requirements. Eligibility for licensure may involve more than degree completion and may include professional examinations, background checks, and fingerprinting. 

However, only the following states extend licenses to BSW-level social workers:

Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Wisconsin

We do not meet requirements for Social Work licensing in Washington State which requires a minimum of a Master in Social Work (MSW) degree.
