Background
Bob Trunek spent his elementary and high school years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where his father was working at the time. He returned to the United States in 1963 to attend MIT where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane, in 1967.
After a tour in the United States Naval Reserve supervising naval ship construction and repair at Newport News, Va he found permanent employment at Atlantic Richfield Co (ARCO) in Texas in 1970. While there he earned an MBA from the University of Houston.
He worked at various Project Engineer, Project Manager and Refinery Operation positions with ARCO, traveling from Houston to Chicago to San Francisco to Bellingham then back to Houston, where he and Diane adopted their daughter, Tricia. They remained in Houston until he was appointed a VP with ARCO Transportation Co. in Long Beach, CA in 1982, where he lived with Diane and Tricia until retirement in 2000. While in Long Beach he worked in several increasingly responsible positions in ARCO’s transportation and refining subsidiaries, and in the Corporate headquarters.
Since retirement Bob and Diane spent 2 years on their 49 foot trawler cruising on the west coast of the US, Canada and Mexico, then acquired a small manufacturing business which he still owns. He also continued his interest in community, church and philanthropic organizations where he has served as a board member, committee member or chair. He and Diane currently spend much of their time visiting family and exploring the world.
