Background

Dr. Seong, formerly the chair of the Civil Engineering Department and director of Master of Civil Engineering Program, has been with Saint Martin’s University since 1995. Prior to joining Saint Martin's University, Dr. Seong worked for consulting companies in Pennsylvania, New York and Washington. He was a structural engineer for Severud-Szegezdy Consulting Engineers P.C., New York, N.Y., designing high-rise office buildings, and a bridge project engineer for Arvid Grant and Associates, Olympia, Wash., involved in projects of Condition Evaluation of Tacoma Narrows Bridge and Rehabilitation of Skagway Bridge in Alaska.

Dr. Seong also has foreign engineering experience, working for Samsung and Hyundai Construction Co., Korea, engaged in various engineering projects, such as a long span suspension bridge which connects Korea’s new Incheon Airport to Seoul, LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) Storage Tank site development, and planning a Construction Engineering Laboratory for Samsung Corporation.

Although Dr. Seong’s field of interest was in steel bridge fatigue and fracture problems, and building structural design, recently, he was involved in forensic engineering, investigating construction failures around Puget Sound area and accidents of a tower crane in Bellevue and a truck-mounted crane in Wenatchee, Wash. with former dean of Saint Martin's University School of Engineering, while teaching at Saint Martin's.
