Fall Commencement FAQs

Out of an abundance of concern related to the current health crisis, we have made the difficult decision to postpone Commencement 2020. We hope you will join us as we plan to proudly, and with great joy, hand each one of you your well-earned diploma on the following new date this fall:

Saint Martin's University Commencement 2020
Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020

Below are some FAQs with more details still to come. If you have any questions regarding the Fall Commencement, you may contact Associate Dean of Students Ann Adams.

  • How many tickets are allotted to each student?

The number of Commencement tickets allotted to each student will be based on the number of graduates who will be attending in addition to any regulations which may cause social distancing measures to occur. Details to follow.

  • How will I receive my cap, gown, and/or master’s hood?

Caps, gowns and master’s hoods (if a master’s student) will be mailed directly from Herff-Jones to the address you provided in the form that was sent out.

If you have not completed the form, please do so by May 11 to ensure your most up to date address is provided.

Due to COVID-19, Herff-Jones is experiencing delays in production. Delivery is expected to be mid to late August.

Please be sure to bring your regalia with you to Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement, if attending.

  • When will I get my cord(s)?

Cords will be distributed at check-in at the Grand Staircase the day of Commencement. For those who will not be attending Commencement, arrangements can be made with the Registrar’s office for you to get them after Commencement.

  • Will there be a Senior Toast?

Campus Life is still working on some options on how to provide a Senior Toast opportunity for graduating students. Once they have determined what they will be doing, they will send an email out to all graduating students.

  • How will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas will be ready at the start of fall semester. The Registrar’s office will email students when their diploma is ready. You will then have the option of indicating whether you would like to pick it up in person or have it mailed to you.

  • What is Saint Martin's plan to protect the safety and wellness of all attendees?

Saint Martin’s University has the safety and wellbeing of its students, their loved ones, faculty, staff, and the monks as its foremost concern and will be watching closely the guidelines that are presented by the Governor and CDC. We will be ensuring all spaces are sanitized on a regular basis in addition to providing hand sanitizing stations in public areas. Should social distancing be required, this will be taken into account in regard to seating and number of tickets issued per student.
