The English Language Learner (ELL), formerly known as English as a Second Language (ESL), program immerses, prepares and advances the lives of Saint Martin's students in a safe and supportive environment through broadened cultural mindfulness, insightful and adaptive lessons, and transformative experiences inspired by Catholic Benedictine values and core principles of current language practices.
The ELL program's goals:
- To engage students in authentic English course to aid in the proficiency, develop rapport with professors, and prepare students for a successful transition into a degree program at Saint Martin's University.
- To provide a learning and cultural experience in English for short-term study abroad exchange students.
- To enhance students' knowledge of U.S. and Pacific Northwest culture and values, so they can become engaged and active participants of the Saint Martin's community and beyond.
- To strengthen students' English language skills through discussion, critical thinking and examination of their own personal values."
