WaV2T grows through Oracle partnership and flexible scheduling, preparing military-affiliated students for high-demand IT careers.
Students who have served in the military possess a unique and varied skill set that benefits any career path they choose and translates well to technology careers. At Saint Martin’s University, active-duty, transitioning and veteran servicemembers are finding new opportunities through the expansion of the Washington Vets to Tech (WaV2T) program.
The program has recently expanded with the introduction of a new 12-week Server and Cloud: Application: Data Center Technician Pathway developed in partnership with Oracle. This expansion is designed to increase access, flexibility and alignment with workforce needs.
The Saint Martin’s WaV2T program continues to be one of the University’s key initiatives supporting military-connected students, and is just one of the many reasons that Saint Martin’s has earned Gold designation as a 2026-2027 Military Friendly School and Military Spouse Friendly School, as well as being a 2025–2026 Military Support College of Distinction.
New Data Center Technician Pathway builds direct pipeline into cloud and infrastructure careers for veteran and active-duty students
The Server and Cloud Application: Data Center Technician pathway is focused on preparing students for entry-level roles in data center operations, server management and cloud infrastructure environments. The first cohort through the program started in August 2025 and all participants ended the session with job offers. The most recent cohort graduated in May 2026 with 19 out of 20 graduates being offered jobs with Oracle.
Jose Otero, WaV2T career development manager, explains that students learn about troubleshooting servers, managing inventory and logistics, and responding to operational incidents and other key technical skills. They also receive professional development support, including resume building, interview preparation and connection to a national network of hiring partners.
Program prerequisites include an application, proof of service, Math 101 completion or equivalency, Official Joint Service Transcript (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcripts (active-duty and veteran only) and a phone interview.
In addition to the graduation certificate, students earn nationally accredited credits which can be applied to a computer science degree. They also receive certification vouchers for CompTIA Tech+ and CompTIA Linux+.
Eligible students can attend WaV2T certification classes at minimal or no cost using VA benefits
Upon program completion, passing WaV2T students are on the road to a vital, high paying career. Average graduate starting salary ranges from $75,000 to $89,000 (often with a relocation bonus on top of that), 90% of graduates find a job within 180 days and support is continued from graduation through employment. Hiring partners include Oracle, Amazon, TekSystems, various Washington State agencies and others.
Daily classes take place at the Saint Martin’s University campus in Lacey or online and run full-time, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Students can use three to four months of GI Bill benefits per program track or ask about scholarships available for those without VA funding. On-campus housing is also available. This is no-cost to active-duty students using the post 9/11 GI Bill or less than $3,000 for all other applicants.
Interested families can check out one of the weekly drop-in information sessions online to learn more, ask questions or begin the enrollment process.
Military students can start a new career thanks to Saint Martin’s University
WaV2T is open to active-duty service members in their last six months of service; veterans with an honorable or general discharge; and spouses of active-duty military or eligible veterans.
WaV2T sessions run in the spring (January through May), summer (May through August) and fall (August to December). The 18 earned credits can be applied to a Saint Martin’s Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree or transferred to other institutions.
Check out the 2026 academic deadlines page for specific class dates. Active-duty applicants should aim to complete their applications at least ten days before the deadline to allow CSP/Skillbridge approval processing time.
While attending, students meet with Career Development Managers (CDMs) dedicated to assist with job placement for WaV2T students. CDMs help with resume building, cover letters, their virtual presence, job search skills and interviewing.
Otero and other program staff also work with the community to develop internship opportunities. They’re looking for companies with seasoned IT professionals who can provide mentorship and hands-on support as well as suggesting ways of adjusting curriculum to match real world issues. Interested businesses who would like to partner with WaV2T can email WAV2T@stmartin.edu or text 360-252-9265 to learn more.
