Education scholarships

Catholic Teaching Scholarship

Eligible students

For teachers, principals, paraprofessionals in Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Seattle enrolled in any educator preparation program.

Brief description

The Saint Martin's University Catholic school special tuition program will provide a 50 percent occupational special tuition to full-time religious and lay teachers, principals and paraprofessionals of Catholic schools which are under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Seattle. This special tuition will apply to students that are fully accepted into any College of Arts, Sciences and Education educator preparation program. Individuals who are employed on a part-time basis will not be eligible for the program. Application for this special tuition must be submitted at least two weeks before the academic session in which a course in being offered. Saint Martin's University reserves the right to limit the number of Catholic school special tuition program participants in any particular course or program. It is understood that students will be admitted on a space available basis. It is likewise understood that this tuition grant program is not retroactive.

No later than six weeks before beginning of academic session.

Ruth Lin Huang Master in Teaching - Elementary Education Scholarship

Eligible students

For graduate students enrolled in the Master in Teaching program, with an emphasis on elementary education.

Brief description

The purpose of this graduate scholarship is to honor the legacy of Ruth Lin Huang and provide tuition assistance to Saint Martin's University students who are accepted and enrolled into the Master in Teaching program, with an emphasis on elementary education. One Huang Education Master in Teaching - Elementary Education Scholarship will be awarded annually to one recipient in the range of $15,000 - $30,000, depending upon the student's financial need and academic merit after applying for and being accepted into the Master in Teaching program.

Application process

  1. Complete general admission application form.
  2. The awardee and award amount will be selected by the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education based on review of their application and in-person interview in consultation with the graduate admissions counselor. The recipient must have a strong academic record, insightfully articulate their career goals, and demonstrate enthusiasm for furthering the field of elementary education.

Shereen Paff Special Education Scholarship

Eligible students

For undergraduate or master's candidates with a major in special education. To be eligible, students must also:

  • Demonstrate substantial financial need
  • Have a 3.5 cumulative GPA at minimum
  • Have completed at least 18 credit hours in the special education program, with at least a 3.6 GPA in that program
  • Devote their energies toward provide a quality educational experience for students with exceptional needs
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish empathy and maintain quality relationships with children
  • Evidence outside community involvement
  • Possess the potential to be an outstanding educator by demonstrating the qualities of inspirational leadership and academic achievement

Brief description

This scholarship in in honor of Shereen Paff.  The scholarship may be given to multiple recipients, and will not be less than 30% of tuition for one semester, and may be renewable for up to three years given maintenance of original qualifications.

Deadline for application

Applications open in March and are due by mid-July.

Application process

  1. Complete general admission application form.
  2. Complete the Shereen Paff Special Edcation Scholarship application.
  3. Recipient(s) will be made by consensus among full-time faculty from the education department, as well as members of the adjunct faculty who may be teaching courses in the Special Education program, along with the Director of Financial Aid.
