Background

Benedictine Sister Laura Swan is a member of nearby St. Placid Priory. She holds a Master in Christian Ministry and Renewal from Franciscan University, and a Master of Theological Studies and a Post-Master in Spiritual Direction, both from Seattle University. She has published numerous books and articles, including The Forgotten Desert Mothers: Sayings, Lives and Stories of Early Christian Women (translated into 8 languages); Engaging Benedict: What the Rule Can Teach Us TodayThe Benedictine Tradition; and The Wisdom of the Beguines. She serves on the editorial staff for "Magistra: the Journal of Women's Spirituality in History." She is currently researching the history of Benedictine Women from the time of Benedict and Scholastica to the mid-1800s. 

Having served her community as Prioress, she is currently the Formation Director, a spiritual director, and archivist. For fun, she is a member of The Puget Sound Writers Guild writing fiction (living vicariously through her characters).
