Jan Schmitt-Craven

Jan is the internship navigator for the College of Arts, Sciences and Education and the School of Health and Allied Health.

Background

Jan Schmitt-Craven works as the Internship Navigator for students in the College of Arts, Sciences and Education as well as the School of Health and Allied Health. Jan graduated with a B.A. in Secondary Special Education, and an M.A. in Education (Reading Disabilities) from the University of Iowa. She taught in secondary special education classrooms, elementary education classrooms, and was a Graduate Assistant for the University of Iowa Children’s Reading Clinic. 

After a career in classroom teaching and various volunteer coordinator positions in her community, Jan returned to graduate studies at Saint Martin’s University, completing her M.Ed. in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program.  She specifically chose the field of supporting college populations in higher education to pivot from her previous teaching career. Higher Education experiences have included Academic Advising, Career Services and a Research Fellowship Studying Advocacy for Transfer Students. 

Jan loves nature and the outdoors, traveling, reading, music, the arts, cooking/baking and spending time with family/friends. It is her highest honor to be supporting the academic to career journey of students at Saint Martin’s, as well as the campus community in general.
