Reserving spaces

There's a space for you in the Library

Team collaboration, technological exploration, innovative teaching, and quiet reflection: the O’Grady Library offers a variety of spaces to support diverse learning needs. Many can be reserved in advance, as described below.

Classrooms

The larger of the two library computer classrooms, the Gates technology classroom overlooks Saint Martin’s Frisbee golf course and is a popular choice for research-based classes wanting ready access to the library’s physical as well as online resources.

Resources:

  • 24 student workstations with the standard lab software load

  • Instructor podium with computer, document camera, DVD player, projector, and sound system

  • White boards

  • Printer

  • Wireless access

  • MATLAB

  • Statistics software (IBM SPSS Statistics, Minitab, R Studio, etc.)

 

Who may use: faculty, staff, recognized student groups (through a faculty advisor), and members of the monastic community
Location: main level
Use: Full-semester classes have priority. Once the semester schedule has been set by the registrar, the room may be reserved occasionally for classes or meetings needing these resources. This room may be used as an open lab space during midterms, finals, and other times of high demand for library computers. Food service is not permitted, and the library food policy applies to this room.

The seminar room is located on the library’s lower level and is available to faculty who want occasional access to a computer classroom, not full-semester use. It is also used for instruction and workshops by the library and the Center for Student Success, as well as for staff workshops and trainings.

  • Instructor podium with computer, document camera, DVD player, projector, and sound system

  • Conference phone (on request)

  • Printer

Location: lower level
Use: This room may be reserved occasionally for classes or meetings needing these resources. It is not available for full-semester classes. This room may also be used as an open lab space during midterms, finals, and other times of high demand for library computers. Food service is not permitted, and the library food policy applies to this room.

The multimedia center supports media production classes, as well as both individual and team student projects.

  • 16 student media production stations with 27” monitors (4 with dual) and Adobe Creative Suites 6 Master Collection

  • Instructor media workstation with wireless keyboard

Who may use: students, faculty, staff, and members of the monastic community
Location: main level
Use: This is a multiuse space—both classroom and open student lab, with priority given to those who need the specialized technologies installed. The room may be reserved by faculty for full-semester media production and other classes requiring the software or hardware installed. It can also be scheduled for photo editing, video editing, or other media-related workshops for staff, faculty, and students. Food service is not permitted, and the library food policy applies to this room.

Check-out period: 3 hours
Locations: main level and lower level
Use: Priority is given to group use. Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance. Coaches and faculty needing regular use throughout the semester should contact the circulation manager. The library food policy applies to these rooms.

Book a study room

Located in the multimedia center, the three media rooms have media workstations and, two of them, TVs with DVD/VHS. These are smaller than group study rooms, intended to be used by individuals or pairs.

Who may use: students, faculty, staff, and members of the monastic community

Use: Priority is given to students or faculty with media production projects or needing to watch a video. Reservations can be made up to two-weeks in advance. Rooms may not be available when classes are scheduled in the multimedia center. The library food policy applies to these rooms.

The refined and bright Benedictine Reading room is a wonderful space for quiet study or to relax. It is also available by request for campus-wide special events, such as receptions or readings by guest authors.

  • Seating available for 40 – 50 for special events

  • Podium, microphone and speakers (through Event Services)

  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Collection

 

Who may use: Everyone, but only faculty, staff, recognized student groups (through a faculty advisor), and members of the monastic community may reserve the space for special events
Location: Upper level
Use: While this is a quiet reading room, special events may be scheduled with permission of the library dean. Priority is given to events open to the entire campus community. Light food service may be permitted.

The Murdock Trust information commons is one of the largest student computer space on campus. It brings together the information resources, technologies, and individualized support that enable Saint Martin’s students to excel in their research projects.

Resources:

  • 32 workstations, with standard lab software load

  • Reference desk for research and technology assistance

  • Librarians’ and technology coordinators’ offices

  • Physical reference collection

  • Physical media collection (DVDs and CDs)

  • Microform reader and microform collection

  • Wireless access


Location: main level
Use: This is a student study space, but some (not all) workstations may occasionally be reserved by faculty who want to give their students a hands-on introduction to library resources. The library food policy applies to this space.

The Harvey curriculum resources room supports education students with a collection similar to what they will have available in a school library.

Who may use: everyone, but reservations are restricted to faculty

Use: This is a student study space, but may be reserved occasionally by education faculty wishing to introduce their students to its resources. The library food policy applies to this room.

The library’s conference room is available for staff and faculty meetings, conference calls, and business luncheons.

Use: This is a staff and faculty conference room, not a classroom space. Food service is permitted.
