One of our core themes is community. We learn as a community and we celebrate as community through the following signature University events.

Academic events

Saint Martin's students begin their academic journey here with New Student Convocation. This ceremony introduces students and their families to the faculty and staff who will serve as their mentors and guides for the next few years. The highlight of the convocation is when the new students process down the Grand Staircase for the first time, heralding the same walk they will take when they process for Commencement four years later.

Commencement is the culmination of the Saint Martin's student's academic journey. It is a time of celebration for students and their Saint Martin's family, the faculty and staff who have helped them on their journey. For the last time, they will walk down the Grand Staircase with their fellow graduates, ready to receive not only their degree but they charge to change the world.

Join us for the virtual 125th Anniversary Celebration on Nov. 7, 2020 as we gather to celebrate Saint Martin’s 125th anniversary, to welcome the newly elected abbot of Saint Martin’s Abbey, and to raise critical funds for student scholarships.

Family members of our own SMU students are invited as our guests of honor at our annual Family Weekend! During the Fall Semester, we invite families to join us for meals, athletic events, workshops, and other fun activities. Connect with the whole Saint Martin's family, with other SMU parents, with faculty and with the leaders who will help guide your student to change the world.

Originally conceived by the Saint Martin’s Alumni Association to help fulfill its mission to promote, support and enhance our educational and monastic communities, the annual Saint Martin's Food & Wine Festival is a popular community celebration that has much to offer those who attend. The Festival is managed by a mostly all-volunteer committee of alumni, friends, University staff and other members from the greater community. At each year's annual festival, patrons can sample and taste wines from Washington State wineries, beers on tap and food favorites from local restaurants.

The Gala is Saint Martin's University's signature fundraising event for student scholarships. An annual celebration of community and wonderful food and wine, the Gala combines two important Benedictine values: hospitality and stewardship. More than 94 percent of Saint Martin’s students receive some form of financial assistance. As we gather together to break bread, we do so in support our students, whose educational dreams are made possible through scholarships funded from the proceeds of this event.

The annual Golf Classic, benefitting Saints Athletics, is a long-standing tradition at Saint Martin's. Since the first tournament in 1983, the golf tournament has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships for student athletes in all sports.

After 13 years, our annual Dragon Boat Festival has come to a close. Learn more
