Lacey, Wash. – Saint Martin’s University has announced that Nick Coffman will be their new director of campus ministry. Coffman will oversee the campus ministry team and work collaboratively with the University Chaplain and Assistant Campus Minister Fr. Peter Tynan, O.S.B., and Campus Minister Crystal Cardona. As director of campus ministry, Coffman will interact with all members of the University community, especially with the monastic community, the Office of Student Affairs, faculty, and the Benedictine Institute offering intellectual and pastoral leadership. He will join the Office of Campus Ministry team this summer on July 11.

“Nick comes to us with a strong background in Catholic higher education and ministry,” shares Dean of Student Affairs Melanie Richardson. “His ability to bring our Benedictine charism together with a relational approach to student learning will help us live out our mission and values.”

Coffman comes to Saint Martin’s University with over 20 years of experience in serving and learning at Catholic institutions. Prior to his new role, he served as the director of liturgy at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Billings, Mont. In this position, he coordinated programming for over 300 ministers for liturgical and sacramental worship, served as the primary leadership connection with community members, and oversaw budget activities. He also contributed his time as an active volunteer in his community. He volunteered at various charities including Family Promise of Yellowstone Valley, Jesuit Volunteer Corps, St. Thomas Men’s Society, and St. Vincent de Paul Society.

"I have always been drawn to campus ministry – accompanying students on their journey of becoming, providing sacred space for retreat and reflection, connecting service with spiritual fulfillment, caring for those who are struggling, celebrating with those who are flourishing, co-creating with students, faculty, and all partners of goodwill – this is the work of God and a deeply fulfilling vocation,” shares Coffman.

He began working in campus ministry in 2002 at Seattle University where he was a student sacristan. Coffman earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy and art history from Seattle University and completed his master of arts in systematic theology and liturgy at St. John the Baptist University in Collegeville, Minn.
