Fr. Gerard was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on 25 March, 1943. He attended Saint Martin's High School where he graduated in 1961. After completing his bachelor of arts at Saint Martin's College in 1965, he entered Saint Martin's Abbey and was ordained in 1970.
