The Department of Natural Sciences seeks to instill the spirit of scientific inquiry and critical thinking from the perspective of each discipline.

The Biology Program is designed to develop the students’ ability to formulate questions in the biological sciences and conduct research using appropriate methodologies and techniques.

The Chemistry Program builds the chemical foundation necessary to understand chemistry as a varied and central dimension of contemporary life as well as the technical and intellectual skills necessary to facilitate creative problem solving.

In support of the liberal arts tradition of Saint Martin's, the department offers courses for non-major students to introduce them to ideas from the biological and chemical sciences as well as promote an appreciation for the role of scientific inquiry in modern society.
