What if I need to stop working on the application?

You are not required to complete the Common App in a single sitting. If you cannot finish your application, save your work and come back another time. When you are ready to work on your application again, go back to and login with your username and password. Do not create a new account or start a new application.

Tips for completing the Common Application online

Here are some tips to help you successfully complete the Common Application:

  • Save your work often.
  • If you forget your login or password, use the "forgotten password" link on the login page.
  • Please check your browser settings: Javascript and cookies must be enabled and popup blockers must be disabled.
  • Use a word processor to type your writing samples before cutting and pasting or uploading them into the online form.
  • Print a copy of your application and keep copies of all documents you send to us for reference.

We recommend that you complete the Common Application online. However, if you require a paper copy of the Common Application it is available in most high school college counseling offices. You may also email us at and our offices will contact you within 48 hours.
