"Students vs. the World" softball game 2009
On Thursday, September 17, the students of
Saint Martin’s University hosted the first “Students vs. the
World” softball game, a warm-up event to the Inauguration.
Faculty, staff, monks, and board of trustee members (aka “The
World”) banded together to take on the students in some good
clean (competitive) fun! President Roy Heynderickx started
things off by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. “The
World” kept the game close in the early innings, with hits from
faculty, staff, and Kathleen Heynderickx, but the students broke
it open by the middle innings. The final score was 8-1, with the
students taking the victory. As a consolation prize, the members
of the student team presented the President with a softball
trophy with all their signatures. During and after the game,
everyone enjoyed BBQ prepared by Bon Appétit, the University’s
new dining service, and received “I (heart) SMU” T shirts
provided by ASSMU. A great day overall!
