Robert A. Harvie Social Justice Lecture
October 3, 2008
On October 3, 2008 the inaugural 2008-09 Robert A.
Harvie Social Justice Lecture featured Juan Roberto
Melendez, the 99th person to be released from a U.S.
death sentence after evidence of exoneration. Juan spoke
movingly about the pain of imprisonment for nearly 18
years on Florida's death row and about watching his
fellow death row prisoners die - through suicide,
unattended heart attacks, and, finally, execution.
