Saint Martin’s offers info sessions for professionals interested in becoming school administrators

LACEY, WASHINGTON — An information session for the Saint Martin’s University School Administration Certification Program — a one- or two-year program providing a flexible route to becoming a school principal or program administrator — begins at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the University’s Norman Worthington Conference Center, 5300 Pacific Ave. SE, Lacey, Washington. Three additional information sessions are scheduled for 2012: Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. at Timberline High School (North Thurston School District); Thursday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. at Capital High School (Olympia School District); and Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at Saint Martin’s University. All sessions are free and open to the public.
The program is designed for individuals who have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university and typically have three years of professionally oriented work experience in an educational setting. Options are available for candidates to enroll in the certification-only program (if they have a master’s degree) or the Master of Education and certification program together. The program includes accredited professional standards coursework that is offered evenings, weekends and summers, along with a supervised internship. After an intensive summer academy of core administrative courses (July 2 – August 10, 2012), candidates are typically prepared for their internship.
“Our program helps educators tap their leadership potentials and realize the next step in their professional career,” says Mark Haddock, Ph.D., director of the school administration program and faculty member in the University’s College of Education and Professional Psychology.
Information sessions will address entry requirements, program details, required classes and internships, financial information and Washington’s administrator certification process.
The University is accepting applications now and will consider applications in the order received. Most participants will begin classes during the summer of 2012.
