Saint Martin’s students recognize the best of the year

LACEY, WASHINGTON —Saint Martin’s students honored two
faculty members, one staff member and several of their peers
April 18 at the University’s Student Appreciation Awards Night.
The annual event, which celebrates the accomplishments of
students and other Saint Martin’s community members, was hosted
by the Associated Students of Saint Martin’s University (ASSMU).
Donald Stout, associate professor of business, was named
“Associated Students of Saint Martin’s University Faculty Member
of the Year.” Stout, selected by a student vote held during
ASSMU elections, was recognized for his inspiring work in the
classroom during the 2010-11 academic year.
Ginny-Beth Joiner, director of campus life, was awarded
“Associated Students of Saint Martin’s University Staff Member
of the Year.” Joiner, also selected by a student vote, was
honored for her dedication to the student body.
Katya Shkurkin, Ph.D., associate professor of community
services/sociology, received the “Associated Students of Saint
Martin’s University Doug Ford Award.” This award, named after a
former Saint Martin’s faculty member and vice president of
academic affairs, was given to Shkurkin in gratitude for her
outstanding support of ASSMU.

Also recognized were Saint Martin’s students who made the
University’s Dean’s List during the 2010-11 academic year.
