Saint Martin's University president to be inaugurated on September 18

Lacey, Washington – On Friday, September 18, Roy F.
Heynderickx, Ph.D. will be inaugurated as the tenth president of Saint
Martin's University. The public is invited to attend the installation
ceremony, which will take place at 2 p.m. in the Hal and Inge Marcus
Pavilion at Saint Martin’s University, followed by a reception in the
Norman Worthington Conference Center. Father Hilary Thimmesh, O.S.B.,
Ph.D., president emeritus of Saint John’s University, will be the
The Most Reverend Eusebio Elizondo, D.D., J.C.D.,
Auxiliary Bishop for the Seattle Archdiocese, will preside over the
celebratory Mass earlier in the day to receive Heynderickx’s profession
of faith in accordance with Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the constitution
on Catholic higher education drafted by the late Pope John Paul II.
Heynderickx was named the new president by the
University's board of trustees in November 2008 and took office on
January 1, 2009. Prior to coming to Saint Martin’s, Heynderickx was the
vice president for finance and administration at the University of San
Diego and oversaw the finance and administration division including
endowment investments, facilities management, and the budget.
Heynderickx gained most of his experience in higher education at the
University of Portland where he worked for 27 years in a variety of
finance and administration positions, including the vice president for
financial affairs. At the University of Portland, he participated in a
major institutional strategic planning process that led to a significant
redirection of the university’s focus resulting in a strengthened
A native of the Northwest, Heynderickx earned his
bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Oregon in 1975,
an M.B.A. from the University of Portland in 1983, and his Ph.D. in
education administration from the University of Oregon in 1992.
Heynderickx and his wife, Kathleen, have three children: Marc, Troy, and
Kathryn. Heynderickx was recently appointed to the Northwest Commission
on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and also recently joined the Board
of Trustees at the Olympia Tumwater Foundation and the Association of
Washington Business (AWB) board.
