Joint musical recital features talents of two Saint Martin's educators

Lacey, Wash. – Tenor Darrell Born, director of the
Saint Martin’s University’s department of music, and mezzo soprano
Crystal Quillin, a voice teacher at the university will present a joint
recital at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Saint Martin’s Abbey Church,
5300 Pacific Ave. S.E. Due to earlier church services, seating for
concert guests will not begin until 8:15 p.m. The event is free and the
public is invited to attend.
Born will perform works by Vincenzo Bellini, Franz
Schubert, Franz Liszt and Richard Hundley. Quillin will sing Chanson
d’Eve (“Songs of Eve”) by Gabriel Faure.
Born has a master’s degree in vocal performance from
Wichita State University and has performed regionally for Musical
Theater Wichita and Opera Kansas. He served as musical director for
South Puget Sound Community College performances of “The Cradle Will
Rock and “Mack and Mabel,” and for Tumwater High School’s “Once upon a
Mattress.” Along with chairing the Saint Martin’s department of music,
he teaches music and music history courses and is director of the Saint
Martin’s College Chorale, Men’s Ensemble and Women’s Ensemble.
Quillin earned her master’s degree from Texas
Technical University.
