Saint Martin's sets celebration of Dr. Martin's Luther King Jr.

Lacey – Saint Martin’s University will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. with a program at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. The
program will be at the university’s Worthington Center, 5300 Pacific
Ave. SE, and the public is invited to attend.
The Saint Martin’s celebration is taking place in conjunction with the
Jan. 16 national holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader.
Sponsors are the student government, the Associated Students of Saint
Martin’s University, and the offices of Campus Life, Residence Life and
Intercultural Initiatives.
The speaker will be the Rev. Bennie Moore, pastor of Salvation and
Deliverance Church, Portland, Ore., and president of Portland’s Joshua
Community Center of Hope. Also speaking will be Saint Martin’s faculty
members Jeff Birkenstein, Ph.D., English, and Norma Shelan, community
services/sociology, who will talk about the impact King made on their
generations.
The program is about an hour in length and will include music by the
Salvation and Deliverance Church Choir as well as the spoken word,
poetry and dance.
