Jan. 24, 2005

Lacey, Wash. – Come Jan. 29, the Washington Democratic State Party will elect a new chairman or chairwoman at its reorganization meeting in Olympia. The person elected will preside over the organization’s Central Committee, which sets the tone for the party for the state, assists county and district party organizations and leads recruitment and assistance of Democratic candidates for state and federal office.

The Saint Martin's College Democratic Donkey Club will host candidates for the office at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the college’s Student Union Building, 5300 Pacific Ave. The club invites the public to come, hear the campaign platforms of those running for the office currently held by incumbent Paul Berendt. The presentation will give people attending time to ask questions and learn more about the Democratic platform in the state. The event is free.

Speaking at the event will be candidates:
- Bill Phillips, current chair of the 21st Legislative District and longtime Democratic activist.
- Kat Overman, former chair of the Snohomish County Democrats and a consultant campaign management.
- Greg Rodriguez, longtime political activist and King County Democratic Party Chair.
