Tuesday, February 17, 2004 Lacey, Wash. - China is a country in dramatic economic transition. It has the second largest economy in the world after the United States and an economic growth rate that has quadrupled since 1978. By 2010, the Chinese economy is projected to become the world’s largest. Current and future economic and financial developments in China will be the focus of the next Minds on the Millennium lecture series presentation Feb. 26. The lecture will be at 1:30 p.m. at Panorama City’s Quinault Auditorium, 1835 Circle Lane. In “China A Year Later: Can it sustain its rapid economic growth?,” Saint Martin’s faculty member Riley Moore, Ph.D. will draw from his recent studies on U.S.-Chinese trade, as well as observations gained during an innovative faculty exchange with Shanghai Maritime University’s Pudong Business Administration College that began last year. A member of Saint Martin’s business and economics division faculty since 2001, Moore’s research interests in international trade and China have prompted him to design an April conference at the college for small and medium-sized Washington businesses interested in doing business with China. Moore teaches courses in corporate finance, investment analysis and money and banking at Saint Martin’s. He is active in several economics organizations, including the Olympia Economics Club. He also is conference chair for the upcoming 2004 Pacific Northwest Regional Economic Conference. The free public lecture series, Minds on the Millennium, was launched by Saint Martin’s College and Panorama City in 2000 to promote intellectual conversation and the exchange of ideas based on historical, philosophical and literary topics.
