Program faculty

Mary Jo Knesal Rydholm
Mary Jo is an instrumental string teacher in the Olympia School District and a Nationally Certified Music Teacher. She has served as Concertmaster for several symphony orchestras in Washington State, and is currently the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia Ensemble Coordinator and violin coach.

Darrell Born
Darrell is on the faculty of Saint Martin’s University. He teaches music classes, voice, and appears in numerous musical theater and opera roles throughout the South Sound area.

Darlene Jones
A local private teacher, Darlene plays on the Seahawk Drum Line and performs in local bands around the South Sound area.

Greg Allison

Greg has taught instrumental music for the Olympia School District for over 25 years. He is an accomplished trumpet player and is the artistic director and conductor of Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia.

Liz Ward
A graduate of Yale’s School of Music, Liz teaches privately and coaches and conducts the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia Brass Choir.

Jennifer Sagerser
A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, Jennifer is the instrumental music teacher for the Griffin Schools. She conducts the Debut Orchestra of Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia and plays flute in the NW Wind Symphony.

Tom Mettler
Tom is a graduate of Evergreen State College and is an instrumental music teacher at Chinook Middle School in the North Thurston School District. A jazz enthusiast, he plays trumpet in local jazz bands as well as in a brass quintet.

Phil Lawson
Phil teaches guitar at Saint Martin’s University and is an active performer in the jazz, blues and rock scene.
