Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology ("MAC")

The MAC "Online tour"
Chapter 8:  Credentials available with a MAC degree

Students are often confused about the many counseling credentials offered by the State of Washington. A much more extensive discussion of those credentials can be found in the MAC Student Handbook . You may also obtain a free copy of the WA State RCWs and WACs by calling the Dept of Health at (360) 753-6936.

The most important thing for you to know at this time is that the MAC Program at Saint Martin's University was specifically designed to meet all of the educational requirements for licensure as a mental health counselor (regardless of the combination of electives that you choose). The remaining requirements for licensure as a MHC are:

  1. to amass the required hours, under the supervision of a MHC
  2. to pass the state-approved examination.

Although the MAC Program was not specifically designed to meet the requirements of other certification areas, most of the coursework, and the internship, may be aimed at meeting selected requirements of other certifications (such as marriage and family therapist - we have all classes necessary to sit for the state LMFT exam available). You might want to contact the Director of the MAC Program who can give you more information on counseling credentials.
