MAC Admission Handbook:
Chapter 9:
Possible application outcomes

The review of your application, and the resulting decision regarding its disposition, is made by members of the MAC Advisory Committee. The Committee considers all aspects of a prospective student's application.  The decision will then be communicated to you in writing.

Your application will receive any of the following four possible outcomes:

1.  Full Admission

No conditions attached to the admission to the MAC Program. This is a relatively rare occurrence. Less than 5 percent of admissions fall into this category. It does not reflect anything negative about the applicants; it is simply that we can seldom gain a clear enough picture from a paper application and a 10-minute interview to resolve all possible hesitations.

2.  Conditional Acceptance

Various conditions may be attached to the admission into the MAC program. These conditions must be met prior to approval for Candidacy Status (see Current Student Handbook, Chapter 13 - Degree Candidate Status). Conditional status may be lifted anytime prior to application for Candidacy Status. Approval to Candidacy Status will constitute automatic lifting of conditional status. Conditional admission is the usual outcome for most applications.

3.  "Hold" Status

Some applicants, judged not quite ready for admission into the Program may be placed into a "hold" status where they will be asked to correct certain deficiencies prior to admission. Such deficiencies may be made up by obtaining experience in the mental health field, taking an undergraduate psychology class, etc. Applicants may have their applications re-considered for up to one year from the original application. After that year, the application will be closed and students would have to reapply.

4.  Non-Acceptance

Finally, some applicants may not be accepted - either because of less preparation than other applicants, lack of fit, or because goals are inconsistent with the MAC Program. Please understand that we are unable to accept every qualified applicant and so accept only those with superior qualifications or who show the greatest potential for success in the Program and in the field. Rejection of an application to the MAC Program may be appealed to the Dean of the Division of Social Sciences. Unsuccessful applicants have the option to reapply at a later date. However, they would need to complete a new application packet.
