MAC 602: "Assessment & Treatment Planning"
Sample Syllabus (Subject to Change)

Faculty Member:

Adjunct Professor

Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce students to the concepts, tools and techniques associated with psychological assessment and treatment planning. The course assumes familiarity with a variety of psychological theories, psychopathology and general counseling practices. This course offers a view of assessment and treatment as activities that occur within cultural and experiential contexts. We will explore and think critically about the assumptions, activities and techniques of contemporary psychological counseling practice.

Course Objectives:

1.   Students will understand the effects of culture, ethnicity, gender and experience upon the process of assessment and treatment, both for the practitioner and patient.

2.   Students will develop skills in assessment and evaluation and determine the relationship these have to treatment planning.

3.   Students will be able to articulate their own biases and judgments as they relate to psychotherapy.

Students will become familiar with a variety of psychological and
counseling tools and their application to the treatment process.
