MAC Class Notebook:
Chapter 8:  Internship Classes

As mentioned earlier, the two-semester series of Internship classes was designed to meet the requirements of the DOH, Division of Licensing.  It also meets the needs of MAC students who usually feel the need for more contact with MAC faculty and fellow internship students as they work in their off-campus internship.  This two-class series, then, represents the academic portion of the internship experience .

The two internship classes were designed to integrate, consolidate, and synthesize academic knowledge with real-life work experience through case-staffing and clinical evaluation. The classes provide direct feedback of clinical style using specific cases drawn from the off-campus internship.

MAC 691: "Counseling Internship I"

The first internship class is designed to provide academic structure and supervision for an off-campus internship experience. A second emphasis is to familiarize students with a variety of agencies, clients, therapy approaches, and presenting problems. Class members will report on internship progress and share presentations on internship cases as well as on aspects of ethical practice. Graded requirements include presentations of cases that the students are following (including at least one video presentation) and the preparation of a self-evaluation. Prerequisites: students who have:

  • completed two additional, required classes: MAC 601 and MAC 602 for a total of 27 (minimum) hours of coursework. It is also encouraged that you have already completed MAC 522: "Abusive Relationships" (although it is possible to take this class concurrent with the Internship Series.  691 Syllabus

MAC 692: "Counseling Internship II"

This course continues the academic structure and supervision for the off-campus internship experience. The continuing secondary emphasis is on counseling ethics. A new, third, emphasis is on facilitating the transition from the structured classroom to the professional work place. Requirements are similar to MAC 691. Prerequisites: MAC 691: "Counseling Internship I"   692 Syllabus

You have come to the end of the MAC Class Notebook.
