Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology ("MAC")

A proposed timeline for the MAC program

Below is a proposed timeline for completion of the MAC program. It divides the program into several informal "stages" with recommended courses and the paperwork needed to accomplish the major program events in each stage.

This timeline is only a suggestion. Your needs and schedule will dictate where you need to deviate from this recommended sequence. Still, this timeline should be helpful to you as a guideline to planning and successfully completing the program.

Stage One: Acceptance into the program

Recommended coursework:

MAC 502: "Group Therapy"
MAC 503: "Individual Therapy"
MAC 512: "Family Systems Theory"
MAC 514: "Developmental Theory/Psychotherapy"
MAC 521: "Gender and Ethnicity"
MAC 522: "Abusive Relations"
Possible 1 (but only 1) elective

Paperwork to fill out:

Application for transfer credit (if any)
Intent to receive personal therapy
Verification of personal therapy
Application for degree candidate status

Stage Two: Degree Candidate Status

Recommended coursework:

MAC 601: "Psychopathology"
MAC 602: "Assessment & Treatment Planning"
MAC 620: "Ethical Practice in MHC and MFT"
Possibly another elective or two

Paperwork to fill out:

Internship concept form
Final internship contract

Stage Three: Completion of 600 hour internship

Recommended coursework:

MAC 691: "Counseling internship I"
Your final elective (if one is still needed)
MAC 692: "Counseling internship II"

Paperwork to fill out:

On-site evaluation (semester 1)
Application for graduation (need to apply the semester before graduation -- form available from Registrar's Office)
On-site evaluation (semester 2)
