Training: Professional credentials: Dr. Ellis has worked for 24 years as instructor, associate professor, and professor in family studies and/or counseling psychology at Washington State University, Oklahoma State University, and Saint Martin's University and 21 years as a family therapist in agency work and private practice in Oklahoma and Washington. He specializes in marriage and family therapy and cross-cultural and international family interaction (publishing extensively in those areas). He completed practicum experiences at the Parents' Assistance Center (for court-referred abusive/neglectful parents) in Stillwater, Oklahoma, 1984-1985 and Starting Point II Treatment Services (drug/alcohol facility) in Stillwater, Oklahoma, 1985. He completed a six-month sabbatical at Cascade Oaks Youth Recovery Center (an adolescent drug/alcohol facility) in Lacey, WA, 1988, a six-month sabbatical teaching MFT and sociology (in french) at the University of Rouen (Department of Child Development) in Rouen, France, 1995, and a one-month faculty exchange teaching ESL to chinese children for the Sichuan Education Committee, in Chungdu, Republic of China, 1996.
