Kokua is a residential social service agency that
serves and supports adult with disabilities in Thurston County.
Title: Office Assistant
Position Description: Kokua welcomes Interns to help with the daily
running of our agency. Interns will be assisting Client Service
Coordinators, Volunteer Coordinator, Training Coordinator,
Administrative Assistant, Business Operations Coordinator, and the
Hiring Coordinator with everyday business tasks or with a special
project. Students will be assigned work that will then be completed
independently. Kokua interns will gain practical experience about how a
business is run and moreover how a not-for-profit social service agency
works.
Title: Mental Health Assistant
Position Description: Interns will assist the Mental Health Specialist.
Interns will help assess, interpret, and type Functional Assessments,
Positive Behavior Support Plans, and Cross Systems Crisis Plans.
Title: Residential Support Staff
Position Description: Function as a member of a residential team. Work
with residents to improve their self-care skills and maximize their
independence. Be responsible for day-to-day upkeep of the residents’
home. Residents will assist with the chores as their capabilities allow.
Assist with meal preparation, shopping, resident hygiene, financial
record keeping, and resident appointments. Provide accurate and
consistent documentation as required per WAC and DDD policy. Use
respectful language and demeanor with residents. Dress modestly. Use
professional conduct in representing the residents and the agency in the
wider community

Environment: Adults live in separate group home
settings.
Duties include the following: Helping severely
disabled, developmentally, and emotional adults who live within a group
home setting. The interns will also supervise the residents plant
flowers in the green house to be sold during farmer’s market days that
are held in the summer. In the winter, interns will help supervise the
work of drying the flowers to be sold for the holidays.
Note: Supervisor will depend on where the intern
works. This is not a paid position.
