Environment: Will work with approximately 50
children in grades 1st-5th and attend the program which is held in the
R.O.O.F. Center (Kid’s Place). All programs are goal driven with
children being tracked throughout the entire year.
Duties: Work with program coordinator and staff to
provide an after school and summer program for youth in the Rochester
School District. Assist in the following activities: daily tutoring in
homework, weekly drug/alcohol prevention, self-esteem building, violence
prevention, arts and crafts, and recreational activities.

Duties: All students must attend agency training,
which is offered only 2 times a year (spring and fall). Intern will work
as an advocate for women and children, or learn more about the criminal
justice system in reference to children who are living in domestic
violence situations, or gain experience in non-profit administration and
fund raising activities.
Note: The Outreach director, Maria Pena, could tell
you if other places have a need for an intern. Safe Place doesn’t need
an intern for the Fall of 2006, but possibly in the Spring.

Duties: Together runs one neighborhood center in
Evergreen Villages Apartments, in West Olympia. The intern would help
organize activities there. Together also runs 3 after school programs
at: Lacey Elementary School in Lacey, Horizon Elementary School in
Lacey, and McLane Elementary School in Olympia. The intern may help
coordinate and oversee Project Alert for the group. Project Alert is a
drug prevention program for elementary students that is in connection to
the National Guard. The intern would also be introduced to the
administrative side of the group, and all the other activities and
groups Together is involved with.
