B.A. from Linfield College, 1967; Ph.D., Oregon State University, 1973. Professor Axtell is an inorganic chemist by training, and has an interest in coordination chemistry, ligand synthesis and metallophthalocyanines and metalloporphyrins. He is interested in chemical education at all levels and has worked actively with the International Baccalaureate. He also is knowledgeable in the area of chemical demonstrations and "chemical magic."

B.S. in chemistry, University of Oregon, 1983; Ph.D. in chemistry, University of Washington, 1990; Postdoctoral Fellow in Department of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Kansas,   1990 - 1993; Assistant Professor of Chemistry (temporary), Washburn University, Topeka, KS, 1993 - 1995, Stay at home dad, 1995 - 2002, Olympia, Washington.  Dr. Milligan’s research interest is in organic synthetic methods development. Specifically, he is interested in the development of “green” reagents and techniques to replace traditional methods which have proved to be environmentally problematic. Dr. Milligan is also involved in a collaborative effort with the Biology Department to isolate and identify active principles of traditional native plant remedies.
