B.A. from Linfield College, 1967; Ph.D., Oregon State University, 1973 Professor Axtell is an inorganic chemist by training, and has an interest in coordination chemistry, ligand synthesis and metallophthalocyanines and metalloporphyrins. He is interested in chemical education at all levels and has worked actively with the International Baccalaureate. He is also knowledgeable in the area of chemical demonstrations and "chemical magic."

B.S., Saint Xavier University, 1995; M.P.A., Indiana University, 2000; M.S.E.S, ibid., 2000; Ph.D., ibid., 2005. Aaron's research interests include anaerobic microbial ecology, bioremediation, and metal-microbe interactions. When he's not teaching or in the lab, Aaron enjoys spending time with his family camping, hiking and bike riding. He also enjoys experimenting with single-celled fungi in fermentation experiments at home (results vary).

B.S. from Stanford University, 1977; M.D., Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine, 1981. Professor Fulton's academic areas of interest include the human health sciences, with emphasis in anatomy, physiology and molecular biology. He is the department's pre-health advisor.

B.S., University of Iowa, 1986; M.S., Western Washington University, 1994; Ph.D., University of South Carolina, 2003 Dr. Hartman’s research interests include predator – prey interactions of marine invertebrates in benthic ecology, with an emphasis on the intertidal zone and crustaceans. She has conducted field work in Washington State, South Carolina and Alaska and considers the outdoors as the true “laboratory” for learning. She incorporates field trips and field sampling in the courses she teaches at Saint Martin’s University.

B.S. in applied mathematics, Western Washington University, 1984; M.S. in mathematics, Western Washington University, 1986. Professor Mailhot's interests include geometry, chaos theory and integrating the humanities into the study of mathematics. Professor Mailhot is also a jazz musician and enjoys playing softball.

B.S. in chemistry, University of Oregon, 1983; Ph.D. in chemistry, University of Washington, 1990; Postdoctoral Fellow in Department of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Kansas, 1990 - 1993; Assistant Professor of Chemistry (temporary), Washburn University, Topeka, KS, 1993 - 1995, Stay at home dad, 1995 - 2002, Olympia, Washington. Dr. Milligan’s research interest is in organic synthetic methods development. Specifically, he is interested in the development of “green” reagents and techniques to replace traditional methods which have proved to be environmentally problematic. Dr. Milligan is also involved in a collaborative effort with the Biology Department to isolate and identify active principles of traditional native plant remedies.

B. S., University of Puget Sound, 1984; M. A., California State University-Fullerton, 1987; MBA, University of Rhode Island, 1999; Ph.D., ibid, 2003. After fifteen years as a torpedo systems engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, Rhode Island, Dr. Overdeep returned to graduate school in earnest in 1999. Dr. Overdeep's research area is second order rational difference equations with periodic parameters.

Professor Smalley's academic interests are in materials science, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and chemical education. Her extracurricular interests lie in spending time with her family, gardening, hiking, doing crafts, and belly dancing. She is very excited to be joining the Department of Chemistry at SMU.
