Melanie Richardson has served as the dean of students at Saint
Martin’s University since 1998. In this role, she provides
leadership to Student Affairs, overseeing 11 departments and 50
staff. She is charged with a common mission of providing a
Benedictine education that supports co-curricular learning to
students while working collaboratively with the community of
faculty, staff, students and monastic members.
From 1990 to 1998, Richardson served as the director of
counseling services at Saint Martin’s. Prior to that, she worked
extensively as a trainer, consultant and clinician in multiple
treatment settings in Washington state. She currently serves on the
NASPA Region V Board as the small college and universities
representative and is a member of the Association for Student
Affairs at Catholic Colleges and Universities. She earned her
undergraduate degree in social work from Washington State University
and a Master of Social Work from Eastern Washington University in
Spokane, Washington.
