Dino Batali, a former process engineer for Boeing, lived abroad
with his wife, Marilyn, and their children, Mario, Dana and Gina, in
places such as Spain and Italy, for many years.
Their son Mario is now a world-renowned chef and own 20
restaurants in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, Singapore and
Hong Kong; their son
Dana is head of technology at Pixar Films; and their daughter, Gina
and son-in-law Brian D'Amato run the family business, Salumi Artisan
Cured Meats.
After retiring from Boeing, Batali opened Salumi, a
restaurant and salumeria in Seattle's Pioneer Square, inspired by
his grandfather, Angelo Merlino, who opened the first Italian food
import store in Seattle in 1903. In addition to working in the
restaurant, Marilyn, is a docent at the Seattle Art Museum. Batali served as co-chair of both the 2011 and 2012
President's Gala fundraisers.
