The Office of International Programs and Development (OIPD) supports international students on campus and promotes international education at Saint Martin's University.  Through cultural exchange programs, study abroad opportunities and sponsoring educational events on campus that expose students to diverse cultures, the OIPD promotes intercultural communication and study.  Beyond promoting international study for American students, the Office of International Programs and Development also offers an English as a Second Language program to international students.

Saint Martin's students who want to experience another culture for themselves and get a better understanding of the world have several opportunities from which to choose. The Office of International Programs and Development organizes the Japan Cultural Exchange Trip and China Study Tour. We also facilitate faculty exchanges with China and can help graduates find placements teaching English and Business in China. Saint Martin's University has also established partnerships with Butler University and Syracuse University to provide students with a variety of semester, year and summer abroad study opportunities. In addition, the Office of International Programs and Development has established exchange partnerships with three universities in Japan: Reitaku University, Kobe International University, and Mukogawa Women's University as well as Sogang University in South Korea.

The Office of International Programs and Development hosts several cultural exchange programs that allow international student groups to come to Saint Martin's University and learn about American culture first hand. Most programs visit happen during the summer months. While here, students have workshops related to their field of study, visit local places of interest, participate with American peers in various activities and stay with local families for one weekend. If you are interested in participating in an exchange program, there are several ways to do so: as a hospitality aide, workshop presenter/lecturer, student ambassador and/or as a host family.

Take the SMU Path to China

Since Saint Martin’s first exchange with China in 1995, we’ve steadily built exciting learning opportunities on both sides of the Pacific. SMU students can travel to China for a semester in Shanghai, a stint in Hong Kong, teaching ESL classes or the annual China Study Tour. Our faculty regularly teach courses at colleges in Shanghai and Wuhan, and students from our sister schools can finish their degrees at SMU. Sharing our ties with the community, we hosted a 2004 China Business Conference, and in March 2006, we led a business trade mission.
