The O'Grady Library's lending policies for audio-visual
materials, laptops, and other computer and multimedia equipment are
defined in the library's
Circulation
Policy and Past Due
Materials Policy. Please note that the loan periods for
audio-visual and computer equipment differ from other materials,
that fines are assessed for late items, and that patrons are
responsible for the condition of any equipment borrowed. Below are
selected extracts from those
policies on loan periods,
renewals, fines, and
claims returned:
Loan periods
- Video and DVD collection
Videos and DVDs may be checked out to faculty members of Saint Martin's
University and The Evergreen State College for one (1) week.
Students, staff, members of the monastic community may borrow
videos and DVDs for three (3) days. The
general public may view videos in the Library. (Circulation

- Other AV material
Cassettes, films, kits, software, CD-ROMS, or slides may be
checked out to faculty, staff, students, members of the monastic
community or the general public for two (2) weeks.

- Audio-visual and computer/digital equipment
- Audio-visual and computer/digital equipment is
available for academic or college-related projects. (Circulation
Policy IV.I.1-4)
- TV carts, viewing and listening rooms with A-V
equipment, portable drives, scanner slide adapters, and
other equipment designated for in-library use may be
checked out to faculty, staff, students, and members of the
monastic community for two (2) or four (4) hours. Library
staff will determine appropriate circulation periods for
specific pieces of equipment. (Circulation

- Laptops*, digital cameras, camcorders, 35mm cameras,
portable audio systems, portable cassette recorders, and
related equipment may be checked out by students for two
(2) days and by faculty, staff and members of the monastic
community for three (3) days. Only one (1) item of a
similar kind may be checked out at a time. (Circulation

- For selected items (e.g., digital video cameras),
library staff may require that patrons receive detailed
training in the use and care of equipment before that
equipment may be checked out. (Circulation

* One laptop has been designated for short-term use and
is limited to an eight hour check-out.
- Classroom equipment
Microphones, presentation mice, and other classroom equipment
may be checked out at the Circulation Services Desk. This
equipment is made available to Saint Martin's University faculty,
staff and members of the monastic community for use in the
Library’s technology classrooms. (Circulation

Renewals

Laptops, digital cameras, camcorders, 35mm cameras, portable
audio systems, portable cassette recorders, and related
equipment (IV.I.3) may not be renewed. (Circulation
Policy V.D)

Other audio-visual and computer/digital equipment (IV.I.2) may
be renewed up to two (2) times, providing that no other user has
placed a hold on it. (Circulation
Policy V.E)
Fines & fees

Audio-visual equipment and computer/digital equipment will be
considered past due if not returned by the date and time due.

In-library use only equipment

Equipment checked-out for longer use

All other equipment will be assessed a fine of $5.00 per day, up
to the replacement cost of the item plus a $10.00 processing
fee, $5.00 of which is non-refundable. (Past Due

Claims returned or not checked out
- Patrons will often claim either that they have returned
material that the Library has no record of receiving or that
they never checked the material out. . . . (Past Due
Materials Policy III.A)
- No "claims returned" will be accepted for audio-visual or
computer equipment without a receipt from circulation. (Past Due
Materials Policy III.C)
