Quick Start:  Using the classroom projector

Boxlight projector (Seminar Room)Both the main-level Technology Classroom and the lower-level Seminar Room are equipped with a ceiling-mounted Boxlight video/data projector and a projection screen.  These can project the contents of the instructor's computer monitor or videos from the VCR/DVD player. For details on using the VCR/DVD player, see Showing a video.

Getting started

  • Instructor's and students' workstations should have been turned on by the library staff, so simply logon to the instructor's station.
  • Lower the screen using the switch to the right of the whiteboard. Once lowered, please return the switch to the neutral position.
  • Turn on the projector with the projector remote, pressing the green Standby/On button. The small light visible on the bottom of the projector should change from orange to green. It will take a few moments for the lamp to reach its full brightness.
  • Dim classroom lights as needed with the switch next to the whiteboard--on its left in the Technology Classroom and its right in the Seminar Room.

Projector remoteProjecting the instructor's screen

  • Once the projector is on, the instructor's screen should be displayed. If not, press the RGB button on the projector remote (top-right).
    • If you have been showing a video, pressing RGB once switches from video to computer display mode.
    • If you see a blank blue screen that says "No Input is Detected on RGB2," pressing RGB once switches to RGB1, which is where you want to be.
    • If pressing RGB does not work, contact the Reference Desk (x8803) for further assistance.  There is a phone next to the classroom door.
  • If you want audio, make sure the RCA amplifier power switch is on and then  turn the audio Input knob on the RCA amplifier to PC. Adjust volume with the Volume knob on the amplifier.
  • Do not turn off the projector during a presentation unless it will have time to cool completely before needed again--five to ten minutes. Once turned off, it will not restart until it has fully cooled. As an alternative to turning the projector on and off, you might press RGB or Video (top-left) on the projector remote to display a blank blue screen.
  • Note that the projector does not affect student workstations. Students will still have full control and can continue to work. To lock workstations, you must use Altiris.

Turning equipment off

  • At the end of your class, please turn off the projector with the projector remote, pressing the green Standby/On button. You will need to hold the button for a few seconds until the light on the bottom of the projector changes from green to orange.
  • Turn up the classroom lights.
  • If you have used it, turn off the VCR/DVD player.
  • You may leave the screen down and the RCA amplifier turned on.
  • Log-off the instructor station and have students log-off their workstations, but please do not shut-down the computers.
  • If students have been given students headphones, please see that they are returned to the box in the printer cabinet.
  • Leave both the projector and the VCR remote on the instructor's cart.
  • If you have checked out a microphone or presentation mouse, return it to the Circulation desk.
