Moodle implementation
Saint Martin's University has adopted
Moodle as its university-wide course management system. This teaching
and learning tool has been available to both main campus and extension
faculty and students since Summer 2008. It can be used as an
enhancement to traditional face-to-face courses and, on the extensions, as
the delivery system or environment for fully online courses. Moodle is a
full-featured open source course management system. Faculty can post their
syllabus and assignments, host online discussions, give quizzes, collect
assignments, maintain a grade book and more.

Ongoing projects
In Spring 2009, we expect to complete an
integration of Moodle with
iTunes U, which supports podcasting, and a linkage with
Dimdim, a
Web conferencing tool. We will also be providing Deans and Chairs with
an "observer role," the ability to review online courses as part of their
assessment process. Finally, training continues. Dr. Irina
Gendelman will be offering both introductory workshops and sessions on more
advanced topics, including the grade book and incorporating multimedia into
classes. Sign up for faculty workshops or make an appointment with
Dr.
Gendelman.
