Student employment opportunities

 
O'Grady Library employs students in Circulation, the Information Commons, Instructional Technology, and Technical Services.  Detailed position descriptions are available below. There are two types of jobs:

  • Work study:  open only to Saint Martin's University students who have been awarded federal work study through financial aid. No previous library experience required.
     
  • Student labor:  this position has been filled.

O'Grady Library is now accepting Fall 2008 applications. Please note that the library cannot offer jobs until the university has set our final work study allocation. However, positions at O'Grady Library are sought-after, so we recommend applying as soon as possible.

Work study positions

  • Circulation assistants provide courteous and professional service at the circulation desk, processing materials in the circulation workroom, or shelving materials in the stacks. The successful assistant will be public service oriented with attention to punctuality and dependability.

  • Information commons assistants assist patrons with basic reference and computer questions and the general maintenance of the library’s technology equipment. The work schedule is flexible and includes evening and weekend shifts.

  • Instructional technology research assistants work with the Instructional Designer on research and experimentation with cutting edge digital technologies to learn about their uses in teaching. The students are required to have some basic computer skills, curiosity and a desire to experiment with digital media. A working schedule will be set around the student’s academic needs.

  • Technical services assistants work behind the scenes in the library to assist in purchasing, classifying, and preparing books and other library materials for the shelf. The work environment is quiet, but interactive, and the successful assistant enjoys being busy with a variety of hands-on and computer tasks. Although library experience is not required, an interest and facility in detailed work is desirable.
