On the web
- Statistics guide--this guide developed
by Saint Martin's Alita Pierson is your best starting point for finding
statics related to a wide variety of topics.
- Statistical
Abstract--"the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics
on the social, political, and economic organization of the United
States."
- FedStats--access to official
statistical information produced by federal agencies.

topics such as health, social trends, criminal justice, international
affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy.

- Gale

specialized encyclopedias on business, education, the social sciences, and more.

government sites. For example, to find official statistics on consumer
spending, try:
consumer spending and statistics and site:gov
In print reference books
Note that while many these books can point you to relevant statistics,
they may be somewhat dated. If that is the case, look for the original
source of the statistics and see if a current report is available. Try
Fedstats or
Google to search for more recent
online statistics.
Statistics in books or journal articles
Many scholarly articles and books will include tables, graphs, and other
statistical information, which you may use in your assignment. For older
articles, identify the original source of the statistics and see if a
current report is available. Try
Fedstats or
Google to search for more recent
online statistics.
