System freeze/crash on a Macintosh

Occasional freezing is nothing to worry about- but if it's happening daily, call the Help Desk @ (360) 438-4338. For the occasional freeze: first try to FORCE QUIT the application by holding down the apple (command) key + the option key, then hit the esc key. If the system allows you to do this, RESTART the computer from the Special menu.

If the force quit doesn't work, you will have to FORCE REBOOT the system. Hold down the apple (command) key + the control key, then hit the On or Power Button. (On desktop computers the power key is in the upper right corner of the keyboard- it has a left-pointing triangle symbol. On laptops, the power key is at the top of the keyboard and usually has a horseshoe-like symbol.)

After the forced reboot is complete, do a regular Restart from the Special menu to clear the memory.

Last resort; hit the interrupt button on the back of the computer, or the power button.  When you turn the computer back on you must hit the On button again on the keyboard.
