Connecting to the Wireless Network

Prerequisite:  SMU Network account and supported wireless device.

Systems:

Windows XP w/SP2 (supported)

Windows XP pre-SP2 (not supported)

MAC OSX (untested, but should work)

Windows 9x, ME (not supported)

PDA’s (some tested but varies by vendor)

First Setup up your computer.

• The campus wireless network name is SMU.
• Use WPA-PSK Authentication method with TKIP encryption. 
• Pass phrase is smusaints.
• If you are using a PDA device you will have to have it manually registered by an IT staff person in the O’Grady Library.
• Laptops running XP Setup  will require Service Pack 2 as well as an up to date antivirus program. (McAfee or Norton)

Then register it.

After you connect you will have to register you computer on our network by browsing the internet which will automatically take you to the Registration web page.

Wireless setup For Windows XP with SP2

Go to Start à Control Panel à Network Connections à Wireless Network Connection

Click on the Change advanced Settings at the bottom of the left column.

 Then Click the final OK

Go to Start à Control Panel à Network Connections à Wireless Network Connection
